This website celebrates the legacy of the ETHZ Computational Laboratory and provides its former members and visitors with a forum to network among themselves and the academic community at large. Computational Science and Engineering (CSE) entails interdisciplinary research, by a sustained interaction of a critical mass of researchers, tackling complex problems of scientific and engineering interest under the unifying concept of computation. CSE relies on the explosive growth of Information Technology, which allows new subjects to be addressed by simulation, while expanding the application of computation in the experimental arena. Key research topics include multi-scale computation, data mining and grid computing implemented in applications spanning areas such as cell biology, nanotechnology and finance. The StrategischeErfolgsPositionen program of ETHZ (2001-2007) in CSE provided the opportunity to develop this strategic area at ETHZ with the aim towards international leadership and appeal. The Computational/Collaborational Laboratory in CSE (CoLab) is the central part of this program. It was established in ETHZ in May 2002. The scientific program is defined by the CoLab Steering committee. Key elements of the research program include a Visiting Faculty Program, a Post-doctoral Program and Summer Workshops. |
